Network requirements for AI tools

The short version: choosing a route for an AI tool takes more than checking the region or seeing whether the page loads smoothly. Region eligibility, account status, exit IP and the ability to complete requests all affect how well it works. QiuVPN provides cross-border network connectivity, not accounts, subscriptions or API credits for third-party AI tools. Check each tool's official guidance for supported regions and eligibility.

Region checks involve more than the route label

Services may check your exit IP, account region, organization policies and billing details to determine which features are available. A region shown in your client doesn't guarantee the service will accept your current exit IP. Check the official list of supported regions first, then choose a matching route instead of repeatedly switching to regions that don't meet the requirements. If you see a region-related notice, save its exact wording; it's more useful for troubleshooting than simply saying the page won't load.

IP risk checks and connection speed are different issues

CAPTCHAs, extra sign-in checks or access denials may relate to shared exit IP patterns, account activity or browser sessions. Switching routes can sometimes improve the connection path, but it can't replace account verification or override the service's rules. Keep the same exit IP during sign-in and regular use, and avoid switching regions repeatedly while verifying your account.

Streaming responses depend on a stable connection

When an answer appears word by word, the browser or app usually needs to maintain a continuous data connection. If text appears at first and then stops, a long-lived connection may have dropped, the local network may have changed, a proxy rule may be missing, or the service may be temporarily unavailable. File uploads, image generation and code context may also use different request paths. Test each one separately instead of relying only on whether the home page loads.

Compare routes against your actual tasks

Comparing tool and route requirements

Use this table as a troubleshooting guide, not a guarantee of availability. Product features, regional policies and API requirements can change; check the relevant official documentation before use.

Tool × route requirements
Tool Key network requirements What to prioritize when choosing a route What to test separately
ChatGPT Supported regions, sign-in session and streaming responses Choose a supported region and keep the exit IP consistent throughout the response Sign-in redirects, attachment uploads and complete responses
Claude Regional eligibility, account checks and uninterrupted generation Check eligibility first, then test connection stability Long conversations, file uploads and API access
Gemini Account region, product entry point and feature eligibility Check the supported regions for the specific product Account authorization, web access and developer APIs
Copilot Identity authorization, organization policies and plugin connections Confirm the authorization page and editor requests complete successfully Browser sign-in, IDE callbacks and completion requests
Midjourney Account permissions, task submission and asset loading Confirm that both the task page and image assets are reachable Task status, image previews and result retrieval
Cursor Editor network access, identity authorization and streaming responses Confirm the app itself uses the intended network path Conversations, code context and terminal requests

For ChatGPT and Claude web chats, check that responses finish completely, not just that the chat page opens. Different Gemini products may have separate eligibility requirements; access to the website doesn't mean the developer API is enabled. For Copilot, distinguish the web product from GitHub Copilot in the editor. Organization account policies can also affect authorization.

Test Midjourney task submission and image loading separately; a missing preview doesn't necessarily mean the generation task failed. With Cursor, treat the built-in chat, extensions and terminal as separate network clients. They may inherit different settings, so don't assume every request uses the same exit IP just because the app opens.

Sign-in: keep your exit IP consistent

Before you begin, check whether the tool is available to your account and in your region. Network access is only one part of the equation; age restrictions, account eligibility, organization authorization and subscription permissions are determined by the tool provider. Don't assume extra identity checks mean the route is broken, and don't repeatedly create accounts to test the connection.

After choosing a route, try to complete sign-in, authorization redirects and your first session in the same browser. If the authorization page opens in an external browser, make sure it uses the same network environment as the app. Switching regions during verification can make requests before and after sign-in appear to come from different locations, prompting repeated checks or invalidating the session.

If you return to the sign-in page after logging in, check whether the browser allows essential cookies, an extension is blocking scripts, or the device clock is incorrect. To test with a clean session, use a separate browser profile. Don't make clearing cookies a routine step before every connection; it also forces you to sign in again.

QiuVPN doesn't require an email address; you can get started with a username and password. This applies to QiuVPN only. Follow each third-party AI tool's own account and verification requirements.

The web app works, but the API needs a separate check

Web apps rely on browser sessions; APIs rely on request configuration

Web apps typically use the sign-in session saved in your browser. APIs also require the correct endpoint, valid credentials, model access and account credits. Web subscriptions and API billing may be managed separately, so don't assume web access includes developer API access. If you see an authentication, insufficient credits or unavailable model error, check the provider's console before changing routes repeatedly.

Distinguish connection errors from service errors

DNS lookup failures, connection timeouts and TLS handshake errors should generally be checked across your local network, DNS, proxy and certificate chain. A clear authentication or permission error means the request reached a server capable of handling it; check your credentials and account configuration instead. Keep the error type and request time for troubleshooting, but never post secret keys in public forums or support screenshots.

Check the result before retrying an interrupted request

A stopped streaming response doesn't necessarily mean the server stopped processing the request. If the tool provides task or usage history, check it before resubmitting to avoid duplicate tasks or extra usage. Set client timeouts and automatic retries according to the API documentation. Waiting longer won't fix an incorrect proxy path or replace checking the service status.

Configure the environment that actually sends the request

Command line, IDE and CI configuration tips

Command line: check whether the process reads proxy settings

A system proxy being active doesn't mean every command-line program will use it automatically. Check the tool or SDK documentation to see whether it reads system proxy settings, environment variables or its own configuration file. Some programs read HTTP_PROXY, HTTPS_PROXY or ALL_PROXY. Verify supported variables and proxy protocols individually; don't infer support from a variable name alone.

Use the proxy address shown in your local client, not an address and port copied from another device. Also check whether NO_PROXY excludes the target domain from the proxy. After changing environment variables, existing terminals, background processes or editors may still have the old environment. Restart the relevant process, then test with a minimal request.

IDE: separate sign-in, plugins and remote workspaces

Successful authorization for Copilot or Cursor in a browser only confirms that the authorization page was reachable. Back in the editor, test actual completions and chat requests. Check app or extension logs for connection errors and confirm whether it uses system settings or its own proxy configuration. Don't disable certificate verification to troubleshoot. For certificate issues on a managed network, ask an administrator to check the trust configuration.

Remote development is especially easy to misdiagnose: the interface runs locally, while extensions or code may run on a remote host, in a container or in a subsystem. Check the network where the request originates. A loopback address in a remote environment points to that environment, not automatically to your desktop client.

CI: check the runner's exit IP

A successful local test doesn't mean a CI runner has the same network path. Check whether the runner environment can resolve the API domain, establish an encrypted connection and meet the provider's regional requirements. Configure network egress only when the environment permits it and you have authorization. Don't copy desktop proxy settings straight into a pipeline.

Store keys in protected CI variables or a secrets manager, and keep logs limited to the error details needed for troubleshooting. When temporarily changing network settings, limit their scope and keep a rollback plan. Never expose API credentials, subscription details or request bodies containing private code as connection test material.

Common issues and troubleshooting steps

The page says my region isn't supported. Should I switch routes first?

First, check the tool's current supported regions and whether your account meets the requirements for that product. If it does, verify that your actual exit IP matches the selected region. If the exit IP meets the requirements but the notice remains, check the provider's help documentation or contact its support team. A region label alone doesn't guarantee availability.

The website works, but the terminal or IDE still can't connect. Why?

Start by checking where the request originates and how proxy settings are inherited. Terminals, extensions, containers and remote workspaces may each use different settings. Check the program logs to identify a DNS, handshake, timeout or permission error, then troubleshoot that layer. A successful browser connection doesn't prove other processes are configured correctly.

My response stopped halfway through. Does that mean the route is too slow?

Not necessarily. Keep the region unchanged and try a short conversation to see whether it also stops. Check for local network changes, device sleep or request timeouts. If only a particular model or task fails, check the service status and task limits too. Change one factor at a time to tell whether the issue is the network path or the service.

I'm getting repeated CAPTCHAs. Would switching to more regions help?

Frequent region changes can make the connection appear less consistent across a session. Keep the same exit IP and check essential cookies, scripts and device time. Complete verification as requested by the service, and don't automate repeated attempts. Route changes can help diagnose connection issues, but can't guarantee that account risk checks will stop.

What should I do if an API returns an authentication, credit or model access error?

In the relevant developer console, check that your credentials are valid, the project is correct, and model access and billing are enabled. A network service can't provide API credits on behalf of the tool provider. If you file a connection support ticket, include only redacted error details, the tool name, runtime environment and time of the issue; never include full credentials or request contents.

For a complete connection failure, DNS issues or mobile apps disconnecting in the background, read troubleshooting. For help with a QiuVPN connection, submit a ticket through the user panel. Include your platform, client status, route name, when the issue occurred and redacted screenshots, and note whether only one tool is affected.

Match routes to what you need to do

AI tool route selection and plan tips

First choose a region that meets the tool's requirements, then compare how routes in that region perform for your actual tasks. IEPL dedicated lines, relayed connections and direct connections describe network paths; the route type alone can't tell you whether a particular tool will work. For long chats and code generation, test whether a full response completes, required attachments upload and requests from the editor finish successfully.

Build a repeatable checklist: keep the account and device fixed, choose a route, sign in, then test web chat, uploads and developer APIs separately. If you need to switch routes, keep the region the same where possible and check the session again. You can keep a tested backup route for work, but automatic switching may interrupt a response in progress.

QiuVPN covers 110+ countries with 150+ routes and supports Windows / macOS / iOS / Android / Linux, with unlimited simultaneous devices. For multi-device use, check the exit IP and app settings on each device separately. Unlimited devices doesn't mean they automatically share the same client configuration.

For ongoing use, compare monthly plans: ¥9.9/month for 60GB, ¥18/month for 250GB or ¥28/month for 500GB. Data resets monthly on your activation date; mid-cycle upgrades are prorated by the remaining days. If you use the service less often, consider data packages: ¥158/300GB, ¥358/1000GB or ¥658/3000GB. They last until used and never expire.

Don't estimate data usage by chat count alone. File uploads, image assets and developer environment downloads also use data, so check your actual usage before choosing a plan. QiuVPN accepts Alipay / WeChat Pay / USDT and offers a 7-day refund policy. AI tool subscriptions and API fees aren't included in network plans.
